Can I download photos from my SmugMug site to print myself?

Updated: Mar 27, 2014 12:19PM PDT

Many people wonder if their original, high-resolution photos can be downloaded for printing on their own computers--or on the computers of their favorite people around the world.

If you're logged in as account owner, you can always download your own photos.

Your visitor will, too, when the gallery owner has the "Largest size" option set to "Original" in their gallery settings.

Here's how:

In New SmugMug, click the  download button located under the photo in the gallery or in the lightbox.

In Legacy SmugMug there's two easy ways to do it:

Save digital copies
  • Method 1: If the Originals are enabled, your visitors can move their mouse over the main image in a gallery. They'll see a yellow photo icon on the flyout photo bar. Click that and the full-resolution original image will automatically download to their computer.

Note: That icon will always appear to you, the logged-in account owner. If you're worried about theft, view your gallery logged out to see what your guests see. (More on image protection.)

  • Method 2: Alternatively, you can move your mouse over the main image in a gallery and click on Original in the flyout photo bar.

The photo will open in the Lightbox and it could be very large. Simply right-click anywhere on the photo and a small menu will pop up. Choose Save Image As... to grab a copy.
