Custom photo cards

Last Updated: Dec 12, 2011 06:44AM PST

You've got gorgeous photos in your galleries. They're waiting to be turned into gorgeous custom greeting cards!

Start by browsing our stunning card catalog. With both 4x8 and 5x7 types in over 100 tasteful templates, you're sure to find one that's perfect for you.

What are they like?

4x8 cards are printed on Kodak photo paper and are available in matte, glossy, or lustre finish. You can write a message on the back, but keep in mind that the lab will print some small numbers there, too.

5x7 cards come printed on luxuriously thick card stock, folded in the middle. They're matte with a UV coating that gives the outside just a hint of sheen. The inside is smooth enough to pen a personal message.

All cards are printed through EZ Prints and come with matching envelopes.

When you view a finished 5x7 card in your shopping cart, half of it might look upside-down. Don't worry! That's just how our printers read it and we promise it'll look perfect in-person.

Make it!

  1. Open our card builder.

Browse our catalog and find the design you want. Hit the Make This Card button to open up our card creator. Click the Photos tab and start dragging in your pics. (Skip to Step 3)

  2. Click Types and choose between 5x7 Folded and 4x8 Flat cards.

Choose a category and have fun browsing the awesome choices.

Some cards are designed with multiple photos and text boxes in mind.

  3. Not the perfect pic?

You can always change your mind about a photo. Click the Photos tab and pick a different one.

You'll see a red slash through any image that is not large enough to make a card with the design you've chosen.

Tip: You'll find the minimum resolution requirements for each design in our cards gallery.

  4. Finishing touches.

Add text if your card design provides the space. Make sure it's typo-free!

Click on a photo and drag to move your photo side to side. Zoom in or out using the slider that appears.

  5. Buy now or later.

Click the Create tab. You'll see three buttons:

Click Build It to save the card for later. It will be saved in an unlisted gallery called "Cards" under the category "My SmugMug Creations". Remember that 5x7 folded card images will look a bit funny with some text and photos upside down. That's how they should be to print properly, so please don't rotate them!

Click Buy It and your card will be saved and you'll be able to choose quantities (and finishes, if you're purchasing 4x8 flat cards.) Your selections will be added to your SmugMug shopping cart.

Click Back to Your Gallery if you'd like to cancel without saving. You can always start from scratch and make a new card later.

FYI: Once your card is built you can't go back and make changes. The saved card is a single image, just like one of your photos.

  6. Seal the deal.

If you clicked Buy It, and you're ordering a 4x8 card, you'll be given a choice of three print finishes and the opportunity to order your card in boxes of 20, 50, or 100.

If you clicked Buy It, and you're ordering a 5x7 card, you'll be given the opportunity to order just one or boxes of 10 or 25.

Make your choices and click Add To Cart. Complete the checkout and enjoy mailing your personalized cards to your nearest and dearest.
