How Do I Set Up a Custom Hostname/Domain?

Last Updated: Aug 29, 2012 02:50PM PDT

SmugMug will always be there for you, but we don't have to be in your URL.

With a few quick steps, you can hook up your custom domain to point right to your site.

Example:

Use http://www.moonriverphotography.com instead of http://williams.smugmug.com .

custom hostname

Option 1: SmugDomains

No domain? No problem! SmugMug is hooked up with GoDaddy to get you one-step, effortless domain setup:

  • Go here and pick an available domain name. Follow their steps to make it yours.

  • Visit your SmugMug Account Settings and look in the Style tab for the "Custom Domain" line. Paste your new domain name into the box and click "Save Changes." That's it!

Option 2: DIY

Already have a domain? Great! You already know what you're doing.

1. Point your CNAME 'www' to domains.smugmug.com .

2. Point your A Record '@' to 208.79.45.23 .

3. Visit your SmugMug Account Settings and look in the Style tab for the "Custom Domain" line. Paste your new domain name into the box and click "Save Changes." That's it!

Tip: Using a subdomain? No need to set up the A Record.

FYI: We don't support domains from 1and1.

Gotcha: Custom Domains are limited to 50 characters.

Totally confused?
